Fresher's Ball in my 2nd Year

Hiya guys,

I'm currently writing this blog post after 3 mental days which included; going to the Fresher's ball as a 2nd year (that's the topic of today), turning 20 and bringing my Mancunian friends to the big city. The latter two are pretty much irrelevant for today's post but I mean they all sort of blend together I think.

The Fresher's Ball is done at pretty much every university in England and is a way for first year's to end their 'relaxation' period and get ready for the real work. I missed last year's because I went home for my sisters birthday so I was even more determined to go this and have an epic time. Also, the fact that it was the day before my 20th Birthday seemed like fate because why wouldn't I want to start my birthday with my friends dancing like we were 1st years and drunk - although I was sober the entire night.

The Ball was on the university campus and seemed less formal and more like an awesome club night based on the 4 elements. Walking in, the yard had been completely changed for the 'Earth Zone' and it looked absolutely magical. With fairy lights strung across the trees, little mushroom, women  on stilts and carnival type stalls, it didn't look like a university but more like a fairy kingdom.
It started to get a bit chilly so we went into the union bar itself and the two rooms had literally become a fire and water room . The main bar had red material draped everywhere and fake flames on the dance floor and the little room had fish hanging from the ceiling and tubes of bubbles dotted around. I was never a real fan of the Union Bar because it was sticky and sweaty but it seemed so comfortable and beautiful with all these changes that I sort of didn't want to leave at the end of the night which has never happened.
We spent the rest of the night dancing away like lunatics and I couldn't have imagined being anywhere else with anyone else! The music was amazing, the stalls outside were fun (I won a little teddy for shooting targets) and the atmosphere was electric.

I bet you're wondering about air! Well I ended being a 19 year old there and it was home to Marvin Humes DJ'ing the night away from 11:30. Do I want to be honest? Sure, why not? It was sort of dead considering how much they advertised Marvin because the 'arena' opened late and people were too comfortable outside or in the Fire 'arena' so I did feel sorry for him. It was weird seeing the sport's hall transformed with blue material and clouds but I feel like they should have opened it earlier to bring in a bigger crowd. Poor Marvin!

Apart from that small organisation hiccup, QMUL should be so proud of putting this on and making the most of a small space! I had an amazing time and it was the best way to start my life as *cringes* an adult and not a teenager. I'd recommend anyone to go to a Fresher's Ball whether you're in your first or last year - let your hair down!
3 friends, 2 mushrooms and 1 Fresher's Ball
So that's another new experience for me this year as part of my 'First year in my second year.' Who knows what the rest of the year will bring?

That's all for now my dears,
See you soon

xxx

What the Future holds!

Hi my lil' fairies It's been a month since I've graduated and, since that day, I've been hit with questions left, right and centre about what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. As I've said in the last post, that scares me shitless because I still think I'm too young to know what the future's going to be like and I'm in denial that I'm not in education anymore to use as an excuse... That's not to say that I've been sat on my arse since I finished in May! As soon as I got home, I was lucky enough to have a job at Hollister waiting for me so, as long as I can get the hours, that's what I'll be doing to pass the time and earn some cash. On top of that, I'm also trying to get work experience here and there, apply for jobs and still do all the stuff I love like writing my blogs and stories. However, the fact that I've been so busy, has helped me not like go into an existential crisis BUT it means I've always

Ear Piercing Debate

Hi my lil' fairies, It seems like all I ever seem to do is complain about what I've seen on my usual weekday morning television schedule, which normally includes Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women! I can normally watch pretty much any segment and understand both perspectives, but, today, I watched a segment about a debate that has been talked about before and is just increasingly angering me each time. Would you let your toddler get their ears pierced? Here's the video from the last time it was debated: I know it's a question that raises controversy but my main issue was the argument from the woman who opposed it: getting your toddler's ears pierced is child abuse. EXCUSE ME?!? Here's my stance on this issue as a whole: I got my ears pierced when I was a small baba because it's pretty much normal in my culture and the same thing happened to my sister when she was little. I never found anything weird about it and, fast forward 20

Halloween Costume Controversy Response

Hello my lil' fairies Sometimes, I'll be watching daytime telly (Loose Women, This Morning etc) and I'll stumble upon a topic of discussion that really sparks a reaction inside of me which I normally respond to by tweets. This morning I was watching Good Morning Britain and a topic came up that I knew needed a lot more than just 240 characters. It's something that is extremely close to my heart and really relevant at the moment. I am a massive Disney fan and meeting the characters and Princesses at Disneyworld are memories I won't forget. It's also Halloween and millions of little children are going out to buy costumes of their favourite Princesses like Cinderella, Elsa and Jasmine. So, you can imagine my surprise when I heard Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley talking about the cultural appropriation of Halloween costumes, and in particular Moana and Elsa costumes. My view might be controversial in this PC society but, as someone of ethnic origin, I thin
